Happy Canada Day
July 1, 2010
Oh, Canada!
Home of:
- my first kiss
- my first boyfriend
- my first driving experience
- my first time on ice skates
- the words “colour,” “neighbour,” and “favourite”
- my discovery of street hockey (I played the goalie), Much Music (including Ed the Sock), poutine (yum, yum) and silly stereotypes (no, I’ve never lived in an igloo)
Enough of that. Now, how about some patriotic flag-waving / anthem-singing? Yes? OK:
Finally, Canada is home to these amazing bloggers, who get to celebrate tonight by drinking beer at a BBQ party and watching fireworks (yup, the same thing as July 4th). Lucky people. Do me a favour, would you, and follow a few of my favourite Canuck Tweeps? :)
- E. I. @TurnJacson, a friend of mine from Alberta who will undoubtedly show off his best dance moves tonight and impress some chick with his witty conversation skills. He’s already impressed me with his Tweets. Also, he makes a great wedding date. Let’s face it: This guy is pretty amazing. Please go read his blog The Fantastical Ramblings of a Chronic Over-Thinker.
- @SSDated, a fun girl who I hope to meet up with one day in Vancouver. She is one sharp writer who pens the blog Something She Dated. Now go read her! :)
- @by_simone, a sassy Toronto girl who is completely honest about her sexual escapades (this is the post, “Making Sex Make Sense,” where I discovered her hilariously honest blog Skinny Dip). I also have Twitter crushes on her two guy friends Reggie @reggieramone and C Jackson @dashingfactor
- All three writers from the Toronto-based sex blog Met Another Frog (are people in Toronto having great sex, or what?): my girl Skye @skyemetafrog, Sam @TheManSamSharpe and Elizabeth @elizabethrose_m
- Breanna @unbrelievable is one amazingly sharp / funny / cute Canadian girl who writes the blog Unbrelievable. She will be celebrating Canada Day, like me, in sunny California.
- Lisa @UrbanNativeGirl who writes about fashion, dating and of course, Native American / First Nations issues. She’s simply fascinating, so go read her Tumblr blog Urban Native Girl.
- Ron @WintersDarling is a dashing single dad and good friend of mine that I convinced to write a blog, Very Winters Darling.
- @ShaunJay doesn’t have a blog but is a “transplanted Canadian” who clearly needs to write one to document his experiences as a sports fan and chemistry teacher.
Haven’t had enough Canadian patriotism? No? Me neither.
Happy Canada Day! Drink a Molson for us, would you?

You are making me want to come to Canada (for a visit, of course – my heart is with New York :-)
Aww, Lena, let me know if you ever make it to Vancouver. I’m there once or twice a year.
*BLUSH*
:D You deserved every word, cutie.
Oh Zoe! Thanks so much for the shoutout! I’m so happy our paths crossed on the blogosphere, so honored to be mentioned on your blog & flaterred to be included amongst such awesome people! Happy Canada Day to you too xox
You’re welcome! Simone, there are few words to describe the FUN I have when reading your blog. Keep it up. And you’re right – these ARE awesome people. Happy Canada Day, everyone!

Awesome! Love that video. In fact, I saw it a few times on my Canadian friends’ FB pages today. :)
Happy Canada Day to a fellow “Canadian transplant,” Katie. :)
I LOVE THAT VIDEO. I haven’t heard that song in years. Oh how I love my Canadian tweeps.
Love it! And we Canadians love you. Happy Canada Day Zoe!
Happy Canada Day Sam!
Mmm…poutine! Why don’t they make that here?
I love that South Park dedicated a whole movie to the Canadians…okay, “dedicated” might be too nice a word.
Happy Canada Day!
I KNOW it. I LOVE poutine.
And by “dedicate,” do you mean “blame”? ;)
Happy Canada Day to you too!
Poutine always makes me think Pootang, which makes me think of Ted Nugent… and that’s all I’m saying about that. Just chalk it up to my wild youth.
Anyhoo……. HAPPY CANADA DAY!!
LOL, you’re hilarious, Holly. Nice to see you commenting on my blog. Have a great Canada Day AND Fourth of July. :)
Don’t forget “zed”. I have so many fond memories of my favorite Canadian from my early adulthood…yum.
I hadn’t realized how many Canadian bloggers we have. Awesome. :)
How could I forget ZED, the best pronunciation ever? :)
So, I take it you dated a Canadian guy, eh? Must have been fun!
And yes, there are lots of Canadian bloggers in the dating/relationship/sex scene. I discover more every week. Go Canada!
Zoe, I’m a little late in the game here, but thanks for the shout out and thanks for creating this list. And as Solo at 30 said – didn’t know so many Canuck bloggers were floating around on twitter.
Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, when I put together a Twitter list of Canadian relationship bloggers, I never knew how large it would get. I am currently writing from Canada and I have to say: I love this country. :)
Woohoo!! Go Canada!!!
Sorry for my late arrival but I was at a wedding in Victoria all weekend. Thanks for the shoutout Zoe and so excited that I’ll get to meet a fellow blogger buddy…not going to lie…with most of you guys living in LA and NY I figured it was unlikely but low and behold you’re coming on around :) Woohoo!
I can’t wait to meet up with you VERY VERY soon, SSD! Yay!
